Sorry, the competition registrations for Beat the Brewer 2019 have now closed.

We will supply the clone beer recipes in two formats.

For all-grain brewers, we provide recipes that have been matched as closely as possible to the commercial brewer’s original recipe. This means they include all water modification information, mash temperatures and fermentation temperatures that we have been given. It is up to the each competitor how closely you choose to follow the recipes.

We also provide the recipes in a format suitable for partial extract brewers. These recipe versions follow a process where you steep a small amount of specialty malt and then do a mini-boil to add the hops. It is expected that these recipes will be suitable for people who have brewed in this way before, but they may be more challenging for people that have only ever brewed kit beers.

Advanced beer recipes:
Please be aware that the Paradisi Grapefruit Sour from Renaissance and Become the Ocean from North End are kettle-soured beers. This means that there are additional steps for all grain brewers, and the partial extract versions require you to boil larger volumes than is normal for partial extract recipes – 29L for Paradisi and 24L for Become the Ocean. As with brewing any sour beer, having equipment to monitor pH will be helpful.
